Stanislav Libensky Award is a yearly announced award based on a competition related to this renowned artist and pedagogist.
Stanislav Libensky is rightly considered the most outstanding Czech glasswork artist and pedagogist, referring to the fact that his work created in collaboration with Jaroslava Brychtova is presented in museums and galleries all over the world. Besides his work, he was teaching at Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, he was a director and pedagogist at School of Applied Arts for Glassmaking in Železný Brod where he also permanently lived and worked for most of his life.
The competion is designed for art universities students allowing them to present their graduate works created by any glasswork technique. A part of the competition is the creation of printed catalogue of competition artworks and an exhibition in St. Geroge’s Convent at Prague Castle from September 20th to November 30th, 2012. Awards will be handed over at the Gala Evening and the exhibition vernissage at the Prague Castle.
The competition serves for an international presentation of young artists. The aim of the competition is to help with a development of glass art in the Czech Republic.
The promoter of the competiton is Prague Gallery of the Czech glass – PGČS, o.p.s. whose vision is to deepen a good relationship to the glass, inspire passion for art glassworks and thus to help co-create the Czech perfection – „Czech Excellence“ – at glasswork arts.
PGČS´mission, focused on past, present and future is to establish an informational and presentation center of the world´s glasswork arts in Central Europe. The goal of Prague Gallery is to enhance Prague to the position of glasswork arts capital in Central Europe and to become a center for presentation of art glass and innovations of glasswork techniques.
CONDITIONS OF THE COMPETION
1. Stanislav Libensky Award 2012 is an international competition for students of art universities, who can present their graduate works this way (Bachelor or Master), created by any glassmaking technique.
2. The crucial requirement for participation is an original creative concept and the use of any glassmaking technique or an intent to use this technique. The award will be decided by expert jury, appointed by the Organising Committee of the competition.
3. The competitor is obliged to fill in and sign the application form correctly and send it along with required presentation and photo documentation (in print quality) on CD/DVD or deliver it personally on the address of Pražská galerie českého skla, o. p. s., Bartoškova 26, Praha 4, 140 00, Czech Republic by the 29th of June 2012. A postal stamp is crucial for the deadline.
4. Based on results of the vote in the nomination round in July 2012, the jury, composed of a representative of the curator of the exhibition, an architect of the exhibition and a representative of the Prague Gallery of Czech glass, will select candidates for Stanislav Libensky Award, who receives the highest number of votes and whose works will be then exhibited in St. George’s Convent at Prague Castle. Of these, three best works will be selected by Stanislav Libensky Award 2012 jury in final round and a winner of Stanislav Libensky Award for the year will be announced during a ceremonial Gala evening and the exhibition vernissage at Prague Castle.
5. The winner of Stanislav Libensky Award 2012 will be rewarded with three-week summer residency in Pilchuck Glass School in the USA with courses of own choice for 2013, the air-ticket Prague-Seattle and allowance included. The second prize winner will receive a week’s stay at glasswork Ajeto in the term of his/her choice, accommodation, hours of creative activity at glasswork, allowance included. A special prize of LASVIT company for the best design will be then awarded, a winner of which will receive a check in the value of USD 5000. A special prize of RÜCKL CRYSTAL glasswork will be also awarded, a winner of which will receive a five-day internship at the glasswork in Nižbor, hours of creative activity at glasswork, possibility to consult with staff, accommodation and transport included.
6. Selected candidates are required to lend their works to the vernissage and exhibition in Prague, according to a nature of work and other circumstances. Organizers will ensure the presentation of works in St. George’s Convent at Prague Castle from September 20th to November 30th, 2012, including insurance. Each candidate will receive an invitation for two people at Stanislav Libensky Award ceremony and two pieces of catalog for free.
